Permitting Reform Bill and NHPA Changes Forum

On October 16, 2026, at 12 PM ET, NATHPO will host a virtual briefing for Tribal Leaders & THPOs to discuss the Senate's new permitting "reform" bill, the so-called Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act.

NATHPO, along with a broad coalition of Tribal and advocacy organizations, have come out in opposition to the bill. We are hosting this briefing on October in order to inform Tribal Leaders and THPOs of the dangers this bill poses - the ways it undermines Tribal sovereignty, cuts Tribal Nations out of the consolation process, devalues Indigenous sacred spaces, and removes judicial review as a remedy when agencies fail uphold their responsibility to engage in meaningful Tribal consultation.
